We have just dropped the first release of our Winter 2022 collection, Heartland, so it’s time to take a peek behind the curtain at what inspired this collection.
With bold red dust at its heart and embraced by cool blue oceans, Australia will enchant you. In a town out west, the patter of rain drums on corrugated iron as the dry breaks and dusty plains explode into a fleeting rainbow bloom of wildflowers. On the west coast, surfers greet the day by dancing with dolphins, riding the crystal clear swells in their morning meditation. In the city, the sun glitters on blue harbours and the streets hum with creativity, lively debate and freshly roasted coffee. From the salt of the beach to the red dust of the outback, these epic landscapes breathe life into the people, inspiring deep connection, smiles from strangers, the art of a good yarn, and laughter that spreads like wildfire. We celebrate this magical land with a swathe of desert blooms in mauve, dusky plum, powder blue, and black colliding with bold urban checks, inky leopard prints, strong navy stripes and playful jewel-toned geometric circles. These are mixed with a range of popping knits reflecting the soft purples of a beach sunset, the acid-bright flowers of the tropics, the rainbow striped sky after fresh rain, and a beaming “Whatsup?” from a new-found friend. Australia captivates your mind, body, heart and soul, and here we celebrate all the natural wonders, culture, community and connection that make it so enchanting.
To put it simply, this collection is inspired by the country we call home, and exploring everything this big, beautiful place has to offer.

Dui’s inspiration for the latest Boom Shankar collection was drawn from her recent trip out to Winton, the dinosaur capital of Australia, when she went to attend the annual Winton Film Festival.
“It’s all about the beautiful sunrises of yellow, orange and red, that are so a deep and powerful, and an amazing way to start the day. As the sun comes up the outback transforms with vivid colours of the bright blue sky and the lush green fauna, contrasted against the harsh red earth. As the day begins to set, the colours change again, between the deep red and golden tones, similar to sunrise, and slowly drift into the beautiful soft violets and blues that welcome the night sky. Then come the stars, which in the outback, are next level amazing!”
“When I see these spectacular sights with all those special colours, my mind goes BOOM and the creativity starts to flow. And to know it’s just there, in our own backyard.”
It brings us so much joy to be launching this collection with our new, signature Boom denim. These pieces, and the collection as a whole, puts a vintage 70s spin on a classic outback look, taking style cues from an era where country casual was met by urban bold, graphic prints. It’s a nostalgic celebration that continues the love affair with all things India through the use of traditional print and construction techniques.
In this collection you can expect to see beautiful block print pieces, feminine florals, funky jumpsuits, a very special new edition to our classic guru family, fun checkered fabrics, geometric designs, winter wardrobe staples, and of course, our favourite thing of all for this season… KNITS!
We’ll also be taking you on a road trip with Dui from the Sunshine Coast out to Winton, and we’ll discover some of her favourite places and meet some of the friendly people she fell in love with on the way. We even get to take a little peek at some of her personal photos (but not THAT type of personal, haha).
