Local teachers show us their Boom style!

Local teachers show us their Boom style!

Whoever said dressing for work needs to be boring, especially when your work involves teaching children and inspiring their futures. Wouldn’t it be more fun if you could fill that work space with colour and joy? Imagine if you could uplift and inspire your students just by wearing something exciting and a little quirky everyday…

We caught up with a few local Eumundi Primary School teachers who love wearing Boom Shankar in the classroom, and they showed us their current favourite styles.

First up, is Brittany… Let’s get to know her a little before we play dress ups…

Could you please tell the BOOM community little about yourself?

Hi! I’m Brittany! I’m originally from Brissy. This is my 7th year of teaching, completing 2 years at a remote school in Karumba, and 5 wonderful years at Eumundi State School. I am currently a year 6 teacher!

What made you want to become a teacher?

I can’t really recall a definitive reason for being drawn to teaching, it is just always what I wanted to do. I was the kid that always said “I want to be a teacher when I grow up!” and I never wavered, completing my schooling, going straight to uni and then straight back into a classroom!

What’s the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job - the kids! I get to hang out with 28 little buddies every day, and each year I get a whole new set of new pals! The relationships I build with my students are each unique and I treasure each and every one.

What kind of clothing do you like to wear in the classroom?

I’m all about comfort, but I also think it’s really important to present professionally and take pride in my appearance. So clothes that are comfortable to wear while also looking the part are my go to! I love the more girly stuff, like dresses and skirts in the classroom. I also choose carefully when it come the appropriateness of clothing. Being a tall girl, it can be hard to find items of an appropriate length! So that’s always something I consider. I also love colour!!

What do you like about Boom Shankar clothing?

The clothes from Boom Shankar are all items I’d have in my wardrobe for school! They are all so comfortable and had bright beautiful colours! I love that the styles are light and airy – perfect for staying comfortable all day in summer!

What is it about Boom styles that make them good for the classroom?

Lovely patterns and colours, incredibly comfortable, breathable materials, fantastic quality and above all, they simply look great!

For Brittany’s first outfit, she has chosen our lightweight Eva Tee in Mustard, which is crafted with a tencel/linen blend fabric, giving it a lovely textured woven feel that’s soft and in a relaxed fit. She’s teamed it with the Vintej Skirt in our beautiful flowing ‘vintej’ rayon fabric, that has a matching fabric belt. This outfit makes a great classroom style especially with all those lovely orange tones, which is the colour for joy, creativity, communication and positivity!

For her second outfit, Brittany has layered the fun Zion Tee over our Kerala Dress in Kaindee. This stunning candy stripe dress is made with a soft lightweight rayon fabric, and is our take on the classic slip style dress. The fun candy stripes of mint and marigold is sure to make you (and others) smile on a sunny summer day. Brittany matches it with our classic denim Cisco Jacket with fun rainbow ‘Groove is in the Heart’ embroidery. How could school children not love this colourful ensemble!

Now let’s meet Bonnie Baker….

Could you please tell the BOOM community little about yourself?

I have been a primary school teacher since 2001 - 20 years. During this period, I have taught all grades including preschool and was a Physical Education teacher for a couple of years. I have taught in the Torres Strait, North Brisbane areas and I am currently teaching year 3 on the Sunshine Coast.

What made you want to become a teacher?

Growing up, my mum was a Kindy teacher and an Assistant Director within a child care setting. I helped her part time over school holidays, and I fell in love with the job.

What’s the best thing about your job?

The best thing about my job is helping children grasp confidence within areas that they may find difficult. The lightbulb moments and fist bumps in the air are amazing to see.

What kind of clothing do you like to wear in the classroom?

I wear a variety of clothing items to school. I can be seen wearing skirts, jeans, or shorts with shirts within the working week. I tend to spend a lot of my school time on the floor working with students and hands on equipment, so I need clothing items that allow me to do that quickly and easily.

What do you like about Boom Shankar clothing, and what makes the styles good for the classroom?

Boom Shankar clothing is light and airy - which is fantastic for wearing in a classroom during the summer months. The dresses are long which would be great for when I need to get down on the floor to work with children. The colour combinations are bright and fun, which adds to the enjoyment of school and wearing them.

Bonnie has chosen to layer for her first BOOM outfit, and she has worn our Zion Tee in its soft, textured, woven fabric, under the gorgeous summery Ahana Dress in Sunset. We are in love with this dress and it’s soft flowing fabric, which drapes beautifully therefore flattering for most body types. Plus with the intricate embroidery on the bodice and hem, the Ahana dress is a truly special piece for your summer wardrobe.

For her second classroom choice, Bonnie wears our lovely soft lightweight Eva Tee in Purple, in our tencel/linen blend fabric, with the Kelsey Pants in Neela. The Kelsey Pants are the perfect summer pants with their high waisted fit that’s loose at the top tapering down to a slimmer fit ankle, making them a flattering design. The fabric is our soft floral block printed ‘Neela’ cotton with the shimmering lurex thread woven through. Bonnie has added the Ahana Embroided Kimono over top, with its sweet embroidered detail and textured woven cotton fabric. Thi is definitely a great easy combo when teaching!

And finally, we have a quick chat with Meg Thomas….

Could you please tell the BOOM community little about yourself?

Hi!! I’m Meg, a coffee enthusiast and lover of the outdoors. I grew up in Brisbane and moved to the Sunshine Coast 7 years ago. After a year on the coast, I moved to the very tip of QLD and spent three years living in Bamaga and teaching in Injinoo. I returned to the Sunshine Coast 3 years ago with two beautiful dogs in tow, Toby and Marshall.

What made you want to become a teacher?

I really enjoy being a part of a community and helping others, and teaching seemed to be a perfect fit. I’m very passionate about creating positive relationships with kids and guiding their inquisitive, eager minds.

What’s the best thing about your job?

I love being there for the ‘lightbulb’ moments and seeing the look on their face when they achieve their goals. I feel very lucky that I get to laugh, play, explore and grow with incredible little humans every day.

What kind of clothing do you like to wear in the classroom?

I’m an early years teacher, so I am constantly on the go! I love to feel comfortable in the clothes I wear as I do a lot of teaching on the ground. I’m also prone to spilling things, so bold patterns/styles are my go to.

What do you like about Boom Shankar clothing, and what makes the styles good for the classroom?

I absolutely love how you can effortlessly mix and match different Boom Shankar patterns and pull off a fun outfit! The clothes are all super light, comfortable and could easily be dressed up or down to suit your occasion.

These styles are super comfy, easy to move in and lots of fun!

Meg’s first classroom outfit is a nice simple choice with the lovely, soft, lightweight, tencel/linen blend Eva Tee in Purple, with our classic style, full length Lodhi Pants in our cotton Lodhi Garden block print fabric. Being lightweight, comfy and with pockets, this outfit is a great choice for a full day of teaching and hanging in the playground.

For her second BOOM outfit, Meg wears our gorgeous soft rayon Maahee Dress in the vibrant and tropical Kerala palm block print. This summer dress is lovely and lightweight with a fully lined skirt that flows beautifully, and finished with fun orange tassels and balloon sleeves. Meg wears it with some casual sneakers and one of our reversible bucket hats, which are a new edition to Boom summers.
